Mac Chung Lynn the CEO of Nando’s at the prize presentation ceremony cum launch of the art exhibition said, “Heritage is all about the roots or the story behind the beginning of a tradition, a practice, a culture, religion and the list goes on. It is a very important aspect of life as it helps define the meaning of a lot of things,  including life itself.

“At Nando’s we take pride in our history of how our recipes and existence came about. Hence with this year’s theme we are encouraging the creative minds of our future generation to interpret Heritage into artwork.”

The students were not restricted to their own environments and backgrounds. Anything that could define the roots and history of anything was acceptable.

The 10 winning pieces and another best 30 pieces selected by the judges will be put up for a week-long exhibition and will be open for auction at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Level LG for 1 week from 10 May – 16 May 2010.

All of the artworks were judged by a panel of appointed judges namely Y. Bhg Puan Sri Datin Amar Elizabeth Moggie who is a member on the Board of Trustees for Badan Warisan, Tan Sri Professor Emeritus Dr Khoo Kay Kim who is a historian and currently a Professor Emeritus at University of Malaya’s history department, Bayu Utomo Radjikin who is a well-known artist from the Matahati Group, Syed Nabil Syed Nahar the Director of NN Gallery together with Mac Chung Lynn the CEO of Nando’s.

All decisions were made based on the interpretation of theme, creativity, content, composition and the title of the art piece.

The auction will be a silent auction whereby interested parties can fill up and drop the bidding form at the box provided at exhibition ground. 50 per cent  of the proceeds from the sale of the art pieces will go back to the student whose art piece gets sold.

As for the balance 50 per cent of the proceeds, it will be shared amongst the top three winning colleges of the art competition and will be divided by percentage whereby 50 per cent goes to the Grand Prize winner, 30 per cent to the Second place winner and 20 per cent to the Third place winner.

It was indeed a surprise to everyone as this year’s winner of the Grand Prize was in fact the winner of last year’s Nando’s Peri-fy Your Art – Clucking with Mother Nature’s 2D category. Besides that, there were two other winners this year who also took part last year and won. It shows that the annual Nando’s Peri-fy Your Art has created a following amongst the art students,” said Mac at the end of the prize presentation.

Director of NN Gallery Syed Nabil Syed Nahar said, “It is indeed an honour to be partnering Nando’s again in this art competition. The students have again proved themselves with fantastic artworks. This competition also serves as a good platform for aspiring artists to launch their career in the arts industry. ”
