After the recent success of his maiden attempt at a musical – Kaki Blue, Mark Beu de Silva has been working on his 3rd Community Writing Project.
This upcoming workshop performance of Oink! is Mark’s last project before leaving for a 2-month residency in Korea. He is one of the eight individuals selected from around the world to be part of the Artist in-Residence programme at Hooyong Performing Arts Centre, Korea.
The Community Writing Workshop is an endeavour by klpac to include inviduals of all walks of life in the process of scriptwriting. In Mark’s last 2 plays; Oh My God and 8 Ways to Lighten the Schoolbag, individuals were invited to several workshops to speak their mind on the religions practised in our country and the Malaysian Education system. In the third workshop, individuals participated in sessions discussing the Chinese community in Malaysia and the JE virus. The sessions helped the playwright, Mark Beau de Silva write his new script which he has aptly called Oink!
This Workshop perfomance will finish off with audience members sharing their views and thoughts on what they feel about the script. This will help Mark and the performers work on this piece further. Oink! will then be performed as a full length perfomance in December 2009 at Pentas 2, klpac.
