What do popular Ipoh-based band with 1.7M profile views on their Myspace page – Bittersweet, Twitterati Niki Cheong, blogger Kim Ong, technopreneurs of Foldees.com and PopIN, Malaysia’s best Counter Strike 1.6 teams, beatboxer Shazet and singer songwriter Yuna have in common?
They’ll all be there at the second Independent Youth Festival (IYF09) is held simultaneously with Go International E-Sports Cup // DreamHack Malaysia Grand Finale at High Street and Studio V at Rainforest, 1Utama Shopping Centre and will run until 8pm Sunday, 18 October 2009.
The homegrown festival bridges the digital divide and encourages content creation by bringing together youth from all around Malaysia to one location. Most of these youth would normally have mingled and networked online but never met. IYF09 brings them together and offers a platform for Malaysian youth to showcase their skills in singing and songwriting, filmmaking, dancing, blogging, game development and competing in electronic sports tournaments.
This weekend, Indie Youth Fest 09 will host the grand finale of the following competitions:
• Go International E-sports Cup // DreamHack Malaysia (Champion Counter Strike 1.6 team will win an all-expenses paid trip to compete in DreamHack Sweden).
• Go International E-sports Cup CS1.6 Open Tournament (RM3,000 cash to be won).
• Malaysia Human Beatboxing Challenge where entries were posted on YoutubeTM at www.youtube.com/indieyfest. Winner will walk away with a Canon camera.
• Mass Blogger Review Competition (Winner will win an EOS 1000D DSLR camera)
