Movie-goers in the north are in for a treat….. as leading cinema exhibitor, Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) will be extending its digital 3-D screen to GSC Gurney Plaza, Penang in conjunction with the release of Dreamworks Animation SKG movie “MONSTERS VS ALIENS” this May 28.
‘ Based on popularity of this 3-D digital format which was first introduced to the Klang Valley cinemas last year, we will gradually roll out the 3-D digital facility beyond the current three at GSC Mid Valley, GSC Pavilion KL and GSC 1 Utama (New Wing) in Klang Valley ” said Irving Chee, GSC General Manager.
He added “The overall cost to set up a 3-D digital halls requires quite a substantial investment. The cost of a 3-D projection system starts from RM400,000 depending on the size of the screen. However, GSC will always strive to offer cinema-goers the latest in terms of cinema technologies, facilities and services in order to provide the best cinema experience.”
According to Jeffrey Katzenberg, the CEO of DreamWorks Animation, as the TV industry continues to catch up to movies with technological innovation (larger flat screens, HD, Blu-Ray), it’s now time for movies to take a larger step forward with 3D.
“Monsters vs. Aliens” represents a first for the studio…the first film totally authored in the 3D format—and not just any 3D format. InTru™ 3D combines DreamWorks Animation’s state-of-the-art, proprietary authoring tools with the latest Intel technology, allowing artists to tell a more compelling story and give filmgoers a more exciting, immersive 3D movie experience.”
Katzenberg reflects, “When you say, ‘3D,’ people think of those cheesy old glasses and rinky-dink special effects of reaching out into the audience. That kind of moviemaking is a theme park attraction more than it is movies or storytelling. But what has happened in the last 2 years is a convergence of the tools that enable us to make and exhibit 3D films in such an innovative way that the resulting breathtaking experience will change the way people think of movies.”
Katzenberg also reasons that the current, next-gen InTru™ 3D offers such clarity, beauty and precision that the old imperfections of the format—ghosting, motion blur, eye strain—all vanish. And the result, the storyteller can actually bring the audience into the movie, making it a completely immersive experience.
Managing Director of United International Pictures, Nicholas Yong said “We are excited about this technology and proud to say that MONSTERS VS. ALIENS has the widest 3D release of any movie in Malaysia to date. We would like to thank Golden Screen Cinemas for embracing this format so broadly and look forward to further expansion of the 3D footprint in the year ahead”.
DreamWorks Animation SKG Presents “MONSTERS VS ALIENS,” a Paramount Pictures release—and DreamWorks Animation’s first InTru 3D Movie, wholly conceived, developed and authored in 3D—directed by Rob Letterman (“Shark Tale”) and Conrad Vernon (“Shrek 2”).

Movie Synopsis – “Monsters Vs Aliens”
When California girl Susan (voiced by Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon) is hit by
a meteor on her wedding day, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall. Alerted to
the threat of this new monster, the military jumps into action and Susan is captured and
secreted away to a covert government compound.
There, she is renamed Ginormica and placed in confinement with a ragtag group of other
monsters: the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. (Hugh Laurie); the macho
half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link (Will Arnett); the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.
(Seth Rogen); and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement is cut short,
however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.
In a moment of desperation, The President is persuaded by General W.R. Monger (Kiefer
Sutherland) to enlist the motley crew of Monsters to combat the Alien Robot and save the
world from imminent destruction.
