FOLLOWING  the great response to their recent comeback shows in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau, seminal Hong Kong hip-hop group LMF is set to take KL by storm!

After a lapse of seven years, the group will be presenting its THE WILD LAZY TOUR concert series in Malaysia.

The organisers of LMF THE WILD LAZY TOUR KL 2010 are excited to announce a LMF one-night-only concert in Kuala Lumpur, with the group bringing its distinctive blend of hip-hop, hardcore rap, metal and funk to the KL Live concert hall on 4 September, 2010.

LMF will be delivering a full concert experience, featuring specially arranged new tracks for the KL show only, as well as exclusive performances and collaborations.

The line-up comprises MC Yan, Phat, Kit, Pordip, Davy, Wah, Kevin, Jimmy and DJ Tommy.

The award is to recognize him of his exceptional efforts to mobilize the entertainment industry in service during crises. The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award is presented to an individual in the telecommunications industry whose humanitarian work has brought credit to the industry and whose deeds and actions have a lasting impact on society.

Since its establishment in 2002, only three other honorees have been selected to receive this prestigious award — Oprah Winfrey was the inaugural recipient in 2002, followed by Bill Cosby in 2003 and Danny Thomas in 2004 (presented posthumously, accepted by his daughter, actress Marlo Thomas). The recipients all serve as lasting role models that demonstrate the positive impact one individual can make, reflecting the life and accomplishments of Bob Hope.

Clooney’s determined commitment and efforts to increase awareness of human rights issues and spark constructive response to international crises make him a worthy recipient for the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.

Entering Eureka Skydeck

EARLY in the morning, we made our way a short distance south from the Swanston Hotel in Melbourne, Australia, across the Yarra River to the Eureka Tower Sky Deck.
We were there just as it opened and we were blessed by cloudless blue skies. The views of this good looking city are even better from 300 metres up.
With 360 degree floor to ceiling window views, you take a sharp breath as you survey the panorama all the way from the Dandenong Ranges across the central business district and out over Port Phillip Bay.

Those without a nervous disposition may wish to go out on “The Edge” – a three metre glass cube that sticks out from the building, allowing the brave to look 300m below. The deck is open till 10pm allowing fantastic night time views over the city as well. The Edge sometimes is closed and depends on weather conditions.

Following the stratospheric heights of the Eureka Tower, we then embarked on a marine experience exploring the wonders of the deep at the Melbourne Aquarium.
The aquarium takes visitors through four different marine worlds: the Antarctic Ocean complete with penguins, the Weird and Wonderful which is just as its name suggests, River to Reef with tropical river inhabitants next to those who live on paradise islands, and finally, Sharks Alive, which is technically not an aquarium but more of an Oceanarium. It has 2.2 million litres of water and we sat in a special “fish bowl” watching as massive sharks, stingrays and other assorted fish swam by overhead.
This was a very vivid and intense experience but once the instinctive fear wore off, it was really quite amazing too.

Those who are certified divers (possibly certified mad as well!) can take the plunge and swim with the fishes, well sharks, and there’s a special feeding exhibition that can be watched from the Ocean Theatre. The sheer size of many of these creatures is simply staggering. This is a much bigger and better aquarium than any I have previously seen and it allows for a thorough appreciation of the marine world.

I’m now getting the strong impression that Victoria State, and probably Melbourne in particular, is actually bordering on some kind of “foodie obsession”.
It was soon lunch time and we proceeded down to St Kilda Bay to a very homely restaurant that eschews all designer pretence in favour of flavour and substance – the perennially popular Donovans.

Here, overlooking the foreshore of the pretty bay, we enjoyed a sumptuous meal in very comfortable surroundings. A visit to Melbourne would be incomplete without a visit to St Kilda and a visit to St Kilda would be incomplete without enjoying a good meal at Donovans.

The tour was officially announced in late April 2010 via Adam’s website (http://www.adamofficial.com/my/). On a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis, Celcom continued to show positive performance with revenue up by 0.4%. Effective costs management and ongoing focus on operational efficiency saw EBITDA up by 6% with margins improving by 2.5 percentage points QoQ whilst PATAMI showed a robust increase of 8%.

Amidst stiff competition, Celcom’s mobile broadband maintained its position as the leading mobile broadband provider, with subscribers surpassing the 700,000mark. The overall broadband revenue growth of 89% YoY, contributed to 9% of total revenue, up from 5% in the same quarter last year. As compared to the previous quarter, broadband revenue grew by 13%.

The year also saw strong growth in overall non-voice revenue, now contributing 32% to total revenue, from 27% a year ago. Celcom’s subscribers base continued to grow, reaching 10.6 million with growth in prepaid deriving primarily from Youth segment whilst postpaid from robust mobile broadband acquisition.

The Enterprise segment witnessed continued growth, contributing approximately 11% to total revenue. This segment retained its stronghold as the leading provider to large corporations, multinational corporations (MNCs) and also the government sector.

“The exceptional quarterly PATAMI and EBITDA growth is a testament of the excellent execution of segmented marketing strategy on top of ongoing cost management through implementation of smart spending measures. These achievements as well as that of 17 consecutive quarters of revenue growth would not be possible without the Celcom employees and the best management team, a pool of talented individuals who persevere and believe in the company’s transformation goals,” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom.

Moving forward
To sustain its current momentum for the second half of the year, Celcom will continue strengthening its network infrastructure to meet consumers’ demand for better access and faster connectivity. The recent RM4.2 billion nominal value unrated Sukuk programme issued by Celcom’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Celcom Transmission (M) Sdn Bhd, marked the first step in establishing a network-centric entity which is part of an internal exercise to streamline and synergise business functions and operations. This move further complements the recent announcement of a network and infrastructure collaboration with DiGi.

“This newly established platform of a separate infrastructure service provider will be well-positioned to act as the infrastructure specialist, not only for the entire Axiata Group, but also the possibility of servicing other mobile operators in Malaysia. Reduction of duplications will generate significant savings, ultimately bringing about lower operational cost and improved quality of service. All these, at the end of the day, will bring benefits to not only the service providers but more importantly, to the general public,” commented Dato’ Sri Shazalli.

Focusing on maintaining its leadership in the broadband segment, we will intensify mobile data proposition through smart bundling to the market. Celcom will continue investing heavily in network infrastructure, especially with trend becoming more data-centric than voice-centric, expanding its coverage and capacity, and also to facilitate the ever increasing data demand.

Additionally, the deployment of the new prepaid billing platform is on track to address the limitations of current offering and capability. This new billing system will also be able to facilitate introduction of new products and also a capability that eventually will offer increased flexibility to the customers.

Celcom will also continue to refine its segmentation strategy and this is demonstrated through the recent marketing efforts such as the launch of the BlackBerry®Messenger Plan targeting the youth and also the introduction of the newly enhanced Celcom Blue, a prepaid brand targeting working adults aged 25 and above.

ICOM’S Night Out was truly a night out with young and amazing performers and I was unprepared to be blown away by their show. Joanna Gough had conceptualized a platform to feature the students of the International College of Music (ICOM) and the team from The Celebrities Hall of Fame couldn’t be any happier to be given the opportunity to support these young music enthusiasts.

In the beginning, Joanna Gough conceptualized the idea for ICOM’s Night Out to be an affair whereby the students of ICOM could just have a night out and enjoy each other’s performances and company and experience what The Celebrities Hall of Music had to offer, facility wise –and of course, also how it feels to be up there on stage performing like a celebrity musician with all eyes watching.

But another student changed the direction of the event after the heartbreaking news about the flood in Pakistan. Natasha Humera Ejaz, a student from Pakistan shared an idea with Joanna and thought that ICOM’s Night Out would be an even memorable night if it was done as a relief event in aid to support her country.

Gellobeam ended the night with the crowd dancing to the groove.

Which direction has this event headed to?

With the recent flood tragedy in Pakistan, the students of ICOM proposed to raise funds for the victims via the best way they know how; through music of course –hence the launch of the inaugural ICOM’S Night Out as a charity event to raise funds for the Mercy Malaysia’s Pakistan Relief Fund. All proceeds from the RM20 cover charge will be donated to the fund.

After entering the Celebrities Hall of Music to discover that the room temperature was teeth chattering, the sight of the ICOM students smiling and greeting you had enough warmth to divert my attention away from the freezer like atmosphere.

As The Granadilla Band performed, this 4 piece band blew me away. Not only did their vocalist hailing from Zimbabwe have amazing charisma (and one hell of a singing voice) on stage, their music had that funk cum jazzy style to it. They performed 4 of their original songs which would have made any audience want to plan an island holiday. The vocalist shared with us his inspiration to one of his songs which was titled Dress Up; “When I see my female friends all dolled up and looking gorgeous, I tell them that I respect how much time they put into making themselves look good. That’s what inspired my song Dress Up. It’s just like me and how I obsess about my hair, and I never let anyone touch it…not even my band mates when they casually put a hat on my head and I tell them not to mess with the do” he said in a serious manner. “The fastest time I’ve managed to get my own hair done? Well, 10 minutes –and I was so proud of myself!”

After the bands performance was over, Loh Ui Li on Piano started belting out well polished and classical music playing. Inspired by a Japanese piano player, Uri Li managed to at her own trademark to dignify her own music playing as she performed with a funky and animated touch to her piano pieces. This instrument soloist ended her performance session with a vast encore by her college mates.

Next on stage was Terry Tim on guitar, a student from Myanmar. Terry gave his audience a whole new look on playing acoustic guitar with his finger styled percussion. It was like watching MTV Unplugged performances –but turned up a notch. He used every areas of his guitar to create s supporting sound as he strums the string on his guitar flawlessly. It was without a doubt a very hypnotic experience as he strums and taps his guitar with a faultless coordination. His mentor and music influence, Antoine Dufour would be very pleased with this virtuoso.

The last 2 performers, Eugene Yeo Yu Chuan and the band Gellobeam which is made out of all the performers tonight ended the night with gusto and Eugene belted out Vanessa Mae-like violin music but which more character and energy as he kneels while his head moved to his violin playing. He started off performing a duet with Terry on his last song. The chilled out music eased the night towards the end of the event but as soon as Gellobeam kicked into their routine, playing cover songs from the likes of Beyonce, No Doubt and Mariah Carey, the crowd came alive again with the sounds of Annmarie Stanislaus’s voice.

“Be prepared for her Mariah Carey vocals” Joanna tells me as I asked her about Gellobeam’s vocalist. “When she hits the high notes, that’s when you get a sense of her amazing vocals because she controls it so well”. Boy was she right! Annmarie hit the high notes as she performed Mariah Carey’s Emotion without any exertion. And even when she wasn’t performing Mariah Carey tunes, as soon as those high notes come in, the crowd instantly stood up and cheered on asking for more.

As we enjoyed the music and talents, 3 other students walked amongst the crowd carrying red boxes with little hearts stuck on the front to collect more donations for their charity event, and event after the lovely night was over, the students from ICOM will keep collecting donations and continue to support the victims of the flood in Pakistan.
