AIESEC International Congress took Malaysia to the eyes of 600 people from over 100 countries. AIESEC, the world’s largest student-run organization is having their annual largest conference at Palace of the Golden Horses from Aug 22-31, connecting youth leaders across different cultures, beliefs, and values to come together to make our world a better place.
Playing host for the 61st conference, the congress committee team in Malaysia marked the night of Aug 26 as a night to celebrate Malaysia’s diverse culture, themed “Warna-warni Malaysia”. The congress committee team, in Malaysian traditional costume welcomed the international participants of the congress at the ballroom, with the “Malaysia Truly Asia” song. A spread of Malaysian cuisine buffet was also prepared for people from all around the world to savour, including Malay, Chinese and Indian food and delicacies.
Various local chapters of AIESEC in Malaysia also supported the event by setting up booths to present Malaysian culture, costumes, places of tourist interest and also handicrafts. Simple traditional games were also introduced to everyone, such as the congkak and batu seremban. Students from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia also join in the event by putting up traditional performances such as Dikir Barat and Tarian Muhibbah. The night ended with participants from different countries on the stage, doing the fabulous Joget dance with the Malaysians. It was a colourful night, a celebration of culture and diversity by AIESEC, the international plat form for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential to have a positive impact on the society.
