Twisties Bingit is back and this time it’s on national TV! Twisties Bingit, the popular reality talent search show, jointly-produced by 8TV and Twisties joined the ranks of 8TV programme line-up and inevitably enhance your viewing pleasure starting Dec 11, 2009, every Friday at 9.30pm.
The first instalment of Twisties Bingit last year has been successful in creating the platform for both independent and underground rock outfits that yearn to be discovered. Arguably, 8TV –which has been instrumental in promoting young talents over the last few years — has been extremely excited with the overwhelming response received from local music buffs alike since is made its debut as an on-ground event last year.
“Twisties Bingit is all about searching the right musicians – guitarist, bassist, drummer and vocalist to make up Malaysia’s upcoming band. Our local and independent music scene has expanded over the years with great explosion from local and independent bands,” says Lam Swee Kim, 8TV’s General Manager.
Kim adds: “In fact, I believe there are many more bands and individuals who are equally talented out there and we are very happy to announce to all of them that Twisties Bingit is the right platform for them to showcase their talent,”
“The auditions itself will determine the best contestants around the country. We are not just looking for a winner of the competition but the next best band in the music industry,” adds Kim.
Last year, progressive rock outfit Modread was all smiles when it emerged top in the contest. Since it won the trophy, the band has garnered much attention from newly-found fans from all over the country. Aimed at unearthing budding musicians and vocalists, the second season will be hotter and bigger! Due to popular demand, the show’s producers have decided to make it into a reality talent TV show. Yep, music fans can now enjoy Twisties Bingit in the comfort of their living rooms when the show joins the rank of 8TV programme line-up in December!
Marketing Director of Kraft Malaysia, Jason Chin says, “Due to the overwhelming response of Twisties Bingit last year and consumers having enjoyed themselves tremendously, we have decided to reward them with a more thrilling & unpredictable experience with Twisties Bingit 2009.”
“Besides catching Twisties Bingit on TV, consumers can also participate in gigs across major cities in Malaysia, leading up to the programme. Experiencing Twisties Bingit in person at the gigs as well as having a great time there with their friends, makes watching Twisties Bingit on TV an even more memorable experience,” adds Chin.
The search for the hottest musicians kicked off with a series of nationwide auditions. The first leg of audition was held in Penang and Johor Bahru. This was followed by a series of tryouts at several locations including Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur. The good news is, the numbers of participants have increased by two-fold this year! The auditions are open to musicians aged between 18 and 28 for a spot to be part of the biggest band search in Malaysia! A total of 532 budding musicians turned up at the auditions. Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest number of contestants with 214 musicians.
Out the hundreds of hopefuls who attended the auditions from all over Malaysia, judges pick 43 contestants during central elimination process. From Kota Kinabalu, a total of five musicians are selected. They include two drummers and one vocalist, guitarist and a bassist.
Five contestants were picked from Kuching and they include two drummers and three vocalists. Penang, on the other hand, boasts three guitarists and one bassist, while from Kuala Lumpur is represented by the most number of contestants including six bassists and six vocalists as well as five guitarists and drummers, respectively. From Johor Bahru, there are a couple of vocalists, guitarists and bassists as well as a drummer.
Distinctiveness is paramount as the key criteria to be part of the contest. Musicians are required to undergo a series of auditions and will be judged based on unique presentations, off-the-edge performances, deft music artistry and outside-the-box creativity along with their song selections and other skills deemed relevant by the judges. Contestants are required to complete an assignment each week. The task will be followed by a gig before the elimination process. Elimination will be determined by judges every week. By the way, there is a surprise element in the 1st episode where finally only 36 finalists were selected to form the Top 9 bands and they will have a chance to perform in Twisties Bingit Gigs. The first gig kicked off last weekend, 7th Nov 2009 (Saturday) at Laundry Bar, The Curve. This was where the bands learn to embrace and adjust to new found stardom and interact with their fans. Unfortunately, the first eliminated band was the P’Gees.
Further to that, PESAWAT consisting of Jipie (vocalist), Nizam Camel (guitar), Mann (bass) and Kudux (drums) will also make special guest appearances at all the gigs! There, they will perform their new single, ‘Bingit’ which was specially written for Twisties Bingit. This indie garage rock number evokes the spirit of determination and striving for ones’ dreams, personifying the spirit of Twisties Bingit.
