All set for new heights: Kiru, Siva, Lee, and Joanne
Malaysian Today, who are the organisers of the fantabulous SYOKSHOCK Student Night, which hits town every Thursday nite at Mardi Gras 1 Utama, are supporting Voize in its upcoming VIMA 2010 (Voice Independent Music Awards)!
We took Lee John Salmon, the man behind SYOKSHOCK and crew to our special graffitised rooftop – which immediately got the man hooked!
On VIMA 2009, he says: “We had VIMA last year, and this year is a continuation of last year, so I think its a great platform. For us to give recognition to independent bands. We’re very happy to be part of it – highlighting college bands, promoting bands in general.”
On what he expects to see from VIMA 2010, Lee says:
“Last year, we had the event at Titanium club, and got a lot of people talking about it. They’re happy that younger bands were given some kind of recognition, as we know how hard it is for indie bands to make a living. Even though it might not be cash, any form of recognition is very very good. We also have our own platform to recognise such talents – in the form of Syokshock, where we highlight college bands and give them a chance to perform. I hope to see it grow bigger, as the response was really really good.”
SYOKSHOCK will be helping Voize decide the Best College Act for VIMA 2010 and also choose one performer from the SYOKSHOCK platform to perform on the awards night.
“We’re thrilled to have Malaysian Today join forces with Voize once again to fly the Indie flag high. With a huge college and university following, we consider Malaysian Today as the perfect working partner to decide the Best College Act for VIMA 2010. Stay tuned for the entry forms in Malaysian Today in the next few weeks and also on their website” quipped Siva Chandran, Managing Editor of Voize.my, and founder of VIMA.
We’ll be seeing more great college finds at SYOKSHOCK!

The writing is on the wall for VIMA 2010
