Limkokwing University Hall of Fame was transformed into a spooky scene for the Halloween Celebration, Trick or Treat, on Friday, 30 October 2009. A haunted maze was built in the lobby to provide the horror ambience of the Halloween.
The event, organised solely by the University student ambassadors, was attended by more than 300 students. The students, donned in their favourite mythical creatures, enjoyed various spectacular performances. “It was a tremendous show,” said Ehsan Kabir, one of the student ambassadors who dressed up as a vampire. Ehsan added, “We had belly dances, step dances, rock bands, acoustic bands, rap, beat box, and a fashion show.”
There were games and a contest, the Spookiest Costume of the Night. The winner was Gia Pasha who won a one-day all-expenses paid trip to Redang Island and Cameroon Highlands. Said Pasha, “It took me 30 minutes to put on my make up.”
The term Halloween (also spelled Hallowe’en) is shortened from All Hallows’ Even – e’en is a shortening of even, which is the origin of the words “evening” and “eve”. Halloween is annual festival celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Christian holy day of All Saints. Although it has religious origin, today, Halloween is largely considered as a secular celebration. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, carving jack-o’-lanterns, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.
