- A total of RM20,000 will be contributed to 6 non-profit organisations that are represented by the top 6 finalists.
Currently, a total of 88 retail outlets in Subang Jaya, Sunway and USJ have jumped on the Touch ’n Go Battle of the Bands 2009 bandwagon. These outlets have been designated as the locations where customers can pay and obtain points to vote for their favourite bands. These retailers offer a variety of products and services that include Food Outlets, Car Accessories Shops, IT peripherals and DIY Suppliers, Health and Personal Care Shops, Sundry Shops, Education Establishments and Hobby Outlets. Points can also be collected at all other retail outlets nationwide that accept the Touch ‘n Go card as payment.
Touch ‘n Go customers can now use their Touch ‘n Go cards to make e-payments of their purchases via the merchants’ cashless payment system. For this purpose, the system will electronically capture and register the total amount spent by customers from 19 November 2009 to 10 December 2009. To vote for the bands, customers are required to log on to www.lifeinthefastlane.com.my and register accordingly and voting will commence 4 December 2009. Each RM1 spent entitles a customer to 5 vote points. The list of the participating outlets will be updated daily and are also available at this website.
A mystery gift will be given away each day to a Touch ‘n Go user who records the highest transactions from 19 November 2009 to 10 December 2009, based on an accumulative spending at any of the participating outlets or other retail outlets nationwide. The results will be announced three days after each contest day on the website.

“Touch ‘n Go Battle of the Bands 2009 – Supporting and Uniting Youth & Music for the Community aims to uncover the ability and creativity of our youth and at the same time, it also intends to create awareness of and support the underprivileged in our community,” said Puan Hasni Zarina Mohamed Khan, Managing Director of Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd, during the Press Launch held on 19 November 2009 at Euphoria, Ministry of Sound, Sunway Lagoon Hotel Resorts.
To date, a total of 80 bands have registered their participation in the Touch ‘n Go Battle of the Bands 2009. These bands were recruited during the road shows that were organised from the 18 to 25 November 2009 at colleges in the Subang Jaya, Sunway and USJ areas.
Auditions have been scheduled for 2 and 3 December 2009. Six bands will be shortlisted to perform during the Grand Finale music face-off at the Sunway Pyramid Orange Entrance Piazza on 12th December 2009, an event that is expected to rock the town with an exciting line up of celebrity judges, bringing pure excitement to youths.
As part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Touch ‘n Go is leveraging on this event as an avenue to cultivate and encourage musically talented youth to compete healthily. At the same time, these bands are advocates for the non-profit organisations they represent, arousing awareness and support for these organisations. Touch ‘n Go will match the prize amount awarded to the six finalists and will contribute a total of RM20,000.00 to six identified non-profit organisations, which are:
- Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia
- Pertubuhan Rumah Amal Cahaya Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (RACTAR)
- Women’s Aid Organisation of Malaysia
- Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA)
- Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)
- Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)

This event is targetted at youths in the Subang Jaya, Sunway and USJ areas, which have been earmarked as the first-ever “Touch ‘n Go Zone”. Touch ‘n Go is taking the initiative to educate and create a cashless society in line with its tagline, “Life In The Fast Lane”. There is significant growth in Touch ‘n Go’s cross sector business as apart from toll-highways, the card can now be widely used for public transport, theme parks, parking and retail.
