Limkokwing Indian society celebrated the tradition of Rangoli with exhilarating performances at the Limkokwing Plaza. Rangoli is one of the most popular art forms in India, it is a form of sand painting decoration that uses finely ground white and coloured powders, and is commonly done outside homes in India.
Ehsan Kabir, Mass communications student and emcee for the day said that this event was a stage to showcase the Indian culture. He further added that with so many students coming from different backgrounds and cultures, this Rangoli event is a good opportunity for them to learn about a new culture.
Bharatnatyam and several other classical dances as well as folk dances were showcased during the festival. Bharatnatyam is a type of dance which emphasizes on the hand movements to convey different kinds of emotions to the spectator. A variety of Indian dishes such as Briyani, Mutton Mysore, and Fish Masala were available among other dishes during the event. Avinash Retnam, member of the Limkokwing Indian society said that he is overwhelmed of the support received for this event and added that he did not expect so many students to attend the Rangoli event.
The term Rangoli is derived from the words rang (colour) and aavalli (row of colours). Limkokwing University has more than 30,000 students coming from 150 different cultures in 12 campuses worldwide.
