Good news for local writers and illustrators throughout the country! A convention by the renowned, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) that was held at Limkokwing University on the 20th Nov 2009. The convention was the first to be held at Limkokwing University and was described as the best platform for writers and illustrators for a better networking in exchanging their knowledge. The convention themed “SCBWI –Malaysia Chapter” was aimed to create awareness among the aspiring book writers and illustrators in the country. Among the guests who were expected to attend the event were Linda Tan, President of SCBWI Malaysia, Yussof Gaja SCBWI’s mentor and the President and founder of Limkokwing University Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing.
SCBWI was represented in over 70 regions throughout the world and speaks as a consolidated global voice for professional writers and illustrators. During the one-day event, there was a workshop for the participants, those who were interested in the “Use of Illustrations in Malaysia Children’s Literature’ by Sarah Joan Mokhtar and “Multiculturalism in Malaysian Children’s Literature” By Daphne Lee.
Apart from Yussof Gaja’s talk on “Producing Children’s Books” the talk has definitely poured useful knowledge to the participants at the presentation by the Limkokwing University about the “Branding and Marketing of Children’s Books”. An official signing of the poster launch in commemoration of the 1st SCBWI Convention Malaysia Chapter was also held at the university. Limkokwing University has 30,000 students from 150 countries studying in 12 campuses across 3 continents, education their students on world issues to empower a new generation, the university stresses on raising students knowledge of other cultures and embodies a truly international spirit which centres on creativity and innovation.
