Phat Rides, an exciting Malaysian version of Top Gear, Pimp my Ride and Overhaulin’ all added together to offer the auto lovers the edge of automobile infotainment. Exclusively done by 8TV just for its “mad car lovers”, the first season of this infotainment will be aired every Wednesday, starting on the 10th of June 2009 at 9.30pm only on 8TV.
The show is basically a light hearted and fun infotainment all about cars told through the eyes of a local correspondence as well as voice-over driven tales such as traffic light myths, challenging chicks to put on make-up while taking a ride through pot holes and sensational interviews. The show is truly a local’s point of view on cars but with a twist!
Phat Rides consist of a Car–Toons segment, Phat Chat segment, Phat Rider segment, Dream Drive segment and the Phat Facts segment. The Car–Toons segment consists of skits about the automotive industry in a funny but interesting way.
The Phat Chat segment is an informational segment where interviews regarding current and mind–boggling issues would be done with celebrities and credible figures from the local automotive industry. Among the lineup of guests for the interview segment are Tg. Djan (Malaysian Drift King), Alex & Philipa Yoong, Gunaseelan Rajoo & Karamjit Singh (Malaysian rally drivers) and many others.
For the Phat Rider segment, a Ford Escort will be modified part by part and the progress of this modification will be shown weekly until the end of the season where the car is completely modified.
The Dream Drive segment will showcase one lucky driver who will get the chance of a life time to test drive his/her dream car.
The fifth or last segment of the show is Phat Facts, where handy auto tips and answers to questions from the viewers would be shared.
“This show was made to satisfy the thirst of auto-knowledge and adrenaline rush of our automotive fans,” said 8TV’s General Manager, Ms. Lam Swee Kim.
